Unit One: Personal resilience(25 Hours)

This unit focuses on understanding the relationship between motivation and resilience. Students will examine different types of motivation and apply strategies to enhance their own. They will skillfully craft a personal essay using a given template as guidance. Additionally, students will make connections between these personal essays and their own life experiences, developing a deeper, reflective comprehension of how resilience is represented in various texts.

Unit Two: A resilient society (25 Hours)

This unit guides students through an exploration of how messages are constructed and conveyed. Students will investigate the detailed process of message creation and analyze how images function as powerful tools of communication. They will reflect on the strengths and difficulties involved in interpreting various media forms. The unit also includes a focus on poetic devices, enabling students to dissect and understand textual elements more deeply. Additionally, they will examine song lyrics, considering the social context of their creation and uncovering the wider meanings they express.

Unit Three: Making meaning (25 Hours)

In this unit, students will be using various reading strategies to derive meaning from texts that reflect different cultural backgrounds. They will learn how literary perspectives can help them transcend personal biases and expand their viewpoints. The unit will also guide students in using graphic organizers to brainstorm, refine, and structure their ideas, while carefully selecting evidence from texts to bolster their analyses. A key component of this unit is self-reflection, prompting students to evaluate their own strengths and pinpoint opportunities for growth in their writing and reading abilities.

Unit Four: Recognizing resilience (25 Hours)

In this unit, students will explore and identify their unique strengths and preferences in reading. They will learn to set their own criteria for novel selection and engage in thorough research and critical evaluation to match these standards. The unit further delves into the deep understanding of literary lenses, enabling students to proficiently pinpoint and discuss relevant perspectives and insights, supported by examples from their selected novels. Additionally, the significance of biographical and historical contexts in shaping interpretations and forming opinions will be a key focus, enhancing their analytical skills.

Unit Five: Rich Task Summative 30% (10 Hours)

Concluding the course, this unit features a summative task that encapsulates various key objectives learned throughout the curriculum. It aims to assess and gauge students' abilities to showcase their comprehension of these objectives. Evaluation will be based on the final product presented by the students, as well as insights gathered from observations during discussions.
